Take payments
Sell from your app with Stripe. Checkout works in test mode right away, and real payments go straight to your own Stripe account with no Buildliy fees.
Ask for a shop, a checkout or a buy button in the chat and Buildliy builds it. The checkout works straight away in test mode, so you can try it without any real money moving. When you're ready to sell for real, you connect your own Stripe account on the Payments page, and your app switches to real payments by itself, with no rebuild.
Buildliy adds no fees on top of Stripe's. You keep everything except Stripe's standard processing fee, and the money goes straight to your own Stripe account. Payments are available on every plan.
How payments work
| Before you connect Stripe | After you connect Stripe | |
|---|---|---|
| What checkout does | Takes safe test payments only | Charges real cards |
| What to pay with | The test card 4242 4242 4242 4242 | Any real card |
| Where the money goes | Nowhere, it's simulated | Your own Stripe account, then your bank on Stripe's payout schedule |
| What you need to do | Nothing, it works as soon as it's built | Connect Stripe once on the Payments page |
Real payments in an app always go to the project owner's Stripe account. Buildliy never takes your customers' money into its own Stripe account, and your app's code never holds a Stripe key.
Add a checkout to your app
Ask for it in the chat
Describe what you sell and for how much. The AI builds the store or the buy buttons, and the success and cancel pages.
Let it add your policy pages
If your app doesn't have them yet, the AI also adds short Privacy, Terms and Refunds pages and links them in the footer. Stripe looks at your website before it turns on real payments, and buyers look for these pages too.
Try it with the test card
Open the preview, click a buy button and pay with the card number 4242 4242 4242 4242. The sale shows up on the Payments page under Transactions while you're viewing Test.
Add a shop page that sells my three candles: Lavender for $18, Cedar for $22 and Citrus for $20. Each one gets a Buy button.
Add a "Book a consultation" button that charges $75 at checkout, then shows a thank-you page.
- The lowest price is 5.00 in the product's currency (for example $5.00). Unless you name a currency, prices use your Stripe account's currency, or US dollars before you've connected Stripe.
- The AI sets up one-time payments. If you ask for a monthly plan, it sets up a one-time price and tells you that automatic monthly billing isn't available yet.
- Anything that should only be available after paying, like a download, is checked on your app's server, not just by landing on the thank-you page.
- Once your Stripe account takes real payments, the AI asks before it adds a product or Buy button that charges real cards (Not yet / Take real payments). See Plans and approvals.
While you're building something that takes money, Buildliy may show the project's owner a Set up payments for your app window or a card above the chat box (Let's connect payments or Ready for real payments?). These only appear while your Stripe account can't take real payments yet. You can connect Stripe from there, or choose Later (or Not now — test mode is fine for now) and keep building.
Connect your Stripe account
Open Payments in the left sidebar. Until you're connected, the top of the page shows Accept payments in your app with two choices.
Already use Stripe? Click Use my existing Stripe account. You sign in to Stripe, pick your account and approve. Sales then go straight into the Stripe account you already have. It takes about a minute.
New to Stripe? Choose Your country and click Create my Stripe account. You fill in Stripe's own form, which takes about 5 minutes. Have ready a photo ID, your bank details and your home address. Buildliy fills in your app's details to keep the form short, and you can pause and finish later.
Publish your app before you connect Stripe. Stripe checks your website before it turns on real payments, and a live site makes approval faster. See Publish your app.
Developer option. Under Developer option: connect with a restricted API key instead, you can connect an existing account with a Stripe restricted key (it starts with rk_live_). The page lists the permissions to give the key. Full secret keys (sk_) are refused for your safety, and Buildliy adds the order-tracking webhook to your account for you. To refund payments or create discount codes from the Payments page, the key also needs Refunds, Coupons and Promotion codes set to Write; without them, do those in your Stripe dashboard.
Never paste Stripe keys into the chat. The AI never asks for them; you connect Stripe only on the Payments page or in the Set up payments for your app window.
After you connect
The Payments page tells you exactly where you are:
- Stripe is checking your details: usually a few minutes, sometimes a day. Nothing more is needed from you.
- Almost there: Stripe needs a few more details. Click Finish setup, or finish them in your Stripe dashboard if you connected an existing account.
- Stripe couldn't approve this account: click Open Stripe to see why. Your apps keep taking test payments meanwhile.
- Checkout is paused: shown for a store that has already taken real payments when Stripe stops the account from taking payments. Buyers see that payments are paused, not a test checkout, until Stripe lets the account take payments again. The message says what to do.
- Connected to Stripe: your account is linked. When it also says "Your apps take real payments now — no rebuild needed.", you're live.
Once you're live, every checkout in your apps charges real cards, including in the preview. Test cards stop working.
The Payments page
| Part of the page | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Test / Live switch | Whether you're looking at test activity or real money |
| 7 days / 30 days / 90 days | The period for net revenue, sales and the chart |
| Available now and Pending | Money in your Stripe balance (Live only). It pays out to your bank on Stripe's schedule |
| Totals | Net revenue and Sales for the period, plus Avg order, Total gross, Processing fees and Refunded for all time |
| Products | What your apps sell. Click New product to add one yourself, then ask the AI to add a buy button for it. The AI's buy buttons are for one-time products, so leave How customers pay on Once (one-time purchase) |
| Discount codes | Codes that work at checkout on products created with Allow discount codes turned on |
| Transactions | Each payment: date, product, customer email, gross, fees, net and status |
The Fees column is Stripe's processing fee. Buildliy takes 0%.
Refund a payment
In Transactions, click Refund on a payment. Leave the amount empty to refund it in full, or type a smaller amount, then confirm. The money goes back to the customer's card from your Stripe balance and usually shows up for them in 5–10 days. A refund can't be undone, and Stripe doesn't give back its processing fee.
Sales tax
If Stripe Tax is turned on in your Stripe account, your apps add sales tax to real payments at checkout where you're registered. Once you're live, the Payments page shows Sales tax: on or Sales tax: off with a link to turn it on. Stripe calculates and collects the tax; you still register and file your own returns.
What the launch checklist checks
When your app takes payments, the launch checklist adds two reminders. They don't stop you from publishing.
- Payments are in test mode: customers can't pay real money yet. Click Connect Stripe to go to the Payments page.
- Add a … page: shown when your app is missing a privacy policy, terms or refund policy page, and names the missing ones. Ask the AI: "Add privacy, terms and refund pages and link them in the footer."
Once you're live, the checklist shows Real payments on instead.
Disconnect Stripe
On the Payments page, click Disconnect next to Connected to Stripe and confirm. Real payments stop until you reconnect:
- If you connected with Create my Stripe account or Use my existing Stripe account, checkout in your apps pauses, so buyers see that payments are paused instead of a test checkout. (If the account was never able to take real payments, your apps go back to test payments instead.) Reconnecting an account Buildliy created for you picks up the same Stripe account.
- If you connected with a restricted key, your apps go back to test payments.
