Get started
Your dashboard
Find your way around after you sign in, including the new-app box, the sidebar, your projects and where to get help.
Your dashboard is home base. It's where you start new apps, reopen the ones you've made, and reach your credits, connected services, payments and settings. You land here when you sign in. To get back to it, click New app in the sidebar, or, inside a project, click the project's name at the top left and choose Dashboard.
The new-app box
The middle of the dashboard is one big box for starting a new app. Until you have a project it says "Let's build your first app." After that it asks "What should we build today?"
Type your idea and send it. Buildliy creates a new project and starts building. If your idea is only a word or two, it may ask a few quick picks first, such as colors or layout. See Write great prompts. The controls along the bottom of the box:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Paperclip | Attach a file. You can also drag a file onto the box or paste a screenshot. See Add images and files. |
| Use your brand chip | Appears if you've saved a brand in Settings → Design under My brand and it's marked Offered on new projects (your first brand is). It's on to start with: while it says Using your brand, the new app starts with your colors, fonts, logo and tone. Click it to turn that off for this app. |
| Microphone | Speak instead of typing. It only appears in browsers that support voice typing, so not in Firefox. See Keyboard shortcuts. |
| Wand | Enhance prompt. Rewrites your idea into a clearer request for you to check before sending. It uses the AI, so it needs at least 1 credit and uses a small amount. |
| Arrow | Sends your idea and starts the build. You can also press CmdEnter (CtrlEnter on Windows). |
Under the box, or start from a template opens the template gallery. Starting from a template doesn't run the AI; only the app's live preview uses a small amount of credit while it's running. See Start from a template.
The sidebar
The left sidebar is on every dashboard page. From top to bottom:
| Item | What it opens |
|---|---|
| New app | The dashboard home with the new-app box. |
| Templates | The gallery of finished apps you can copy and change. |
| Connectors | Services you connect once (email, AI, stores, spreadsheets and more) so the AI can use them in any of your apps. See Connectors. |
| Plans & credits | Your plan, your credit balance, upgrading and topping up. See Plans. |
| Usage | Where your credits went: building your apps and running them, by day, by type and by app. See Credits and usage. |
| Payments | Taking payments in your apps. Test payments work right away; to take real money you connect your own Stripe account. See Take payments. |
| Affiliate program | Your invite link and code, and what you earn when people you refer subscribe. See Invite friends. |
| Settings | Your profile, security, notifications, billing, team, design, voice and more. See Account settings. |
| Projects | Every app you have, with a count. It appears once you have one. See below. |
| Help | The help panel. See Get help without leaving the app. |
| Credits | Your remaining balance. The bar turns yellow when you're running low and red when you're nearly out. Click it to open Plans & credits. |
| Your name | Your account menu. See Your account menu. |
On a phone, the sidebar is hidden. Tap the menu button at the top left to open it.
Your projects
The Projects list in the sidebar shows every app you have, most recently changed first. If you're on someone else's team, the projects they share with the team appear here too. Scroll the list to see older projects, and click any project to open it.
A new project starts with a random two-word name, like purple-elephant. After its first AI build, Buildliy usually renames it after your app, unless you've already given it a name yourself. You can rename a project at any time.
Rename, duplicate or delete a project
Right-click a project in the sidebar to see:
- Rename. Give the project a name you'll remember, then click Save. The project's owner and Admins on the team can rename it.
- Duplicate. Make a copy to try a different direction without touching the original. The dialog lists what Comes with the copy and what is Not copied before you click Make a copy. Duplicating doesn't run the AI or use credits. The project's owner and Admins on the team can duplicate it. See Duplicate and transfer.
- Delete. Remove the project for good. Only the project's owner can delete it.
Deleting a project removes its chat history and files, and can't be undone. If the app is published, the live app goes offline too. A domain you bought through Buildliy stays yours.
More actions inside a project
Open a project and click its name at the top left. Under This project you'll find Rename project, Undo last build, Build history, Duplicate project (for the project's owner and Admins on the team), Copy project ID, Transfer project (only the project's owner sees this) and Delete project (only the project's owner can delete). See The project workspace for the rest of that screen.
When someone sends you a project
If someone wants to hand a project over to you, a note appears at the top of your dashboard saying who wants to give you which project. Click Review to see the details and accept it. See Duplicate and transfer.
Your account menu
Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar (on a phone, your avatar at the top right). The menu shows your email and credit balance, then:
- Upgrade for more and Upgrade plan (on the Free plan), or Manage billing (on a paid plan, which opens Stripe's billing page).
- Dashboard and Settings. You can also open Settings with Ctrl, (Cmd, on a Mac).
- Invite a friend, marked Give 50, get 25. See Invite friends.
- Sign out.
Get help without leaving the app
Click Help at the bottom of the sidebar to open the help panel. You can:
- Search common questions, or browse the most useful ones.
- Click Read the guide to open these docs.
- Click Contact us to send a message. A real person replies, usually within one business day.
Inside a project, the question-mark icon above the chat opens the same panel with two extras: Ask in chat (puts your question in the chat box in Discuss mode, so the AI answers without changing your app; nothing is sent until you press send, and the answer uses a few credits) and Replay the tour.
Notifications
Buildliy can let you know about your builds and your account by email and in your browser. Choose what you get in Settings → Notifications:
- Emails for Build finished, Build failed, Weekly digest and Product updates. Security alerts are always on.
- Under In this browser, Tell me when a build finishes and Play a sound, so you can work in another tab while a build runs.
