Build your app

Images in your app

How the AI adds pictures to your app, how to change them, how to use your own photos and logo, how to add video and music, and which picture actions use credits.

Good pictures make an app feel real. Buildliy can add them for you while it builds, let you refine any picture with one click, and put your own photos and logo exactly where you want them.

How pictures get into your app

When your app needs pictures, such as a hero image, product photos or a team page, the AI adds them as part of the build. Depending on the picture, it either makes a new one with AI or uses a free stock photo. If a picture needs readable words, like your shop's name on a sign, the AI makes it rather than using a stock photo. If no picture can be made, a simple placeholder is used so the build still finishes.

Pictures are saved with your project, so they're kept in every version and go live when you publish.

The more you say about the pictures you want, the better they match:

Prompt
Add a hero photo of a sunlit bakery counter with fresh sourdough loaves, warm and natural, no people
Prompt
Give every product card its own photo on a plain light-grey background, all in the same style

See the pictures in chat

Pictures the AI added in a build, including your own photos it placed, appear with its reply. If your request was about pictures, they show right away. Otherwise the newest reply has a short line like "4 pictures · See them" that opens them, and older replies have See the pictures in their ⋯ menu. Click any picture to see it full size.

Change a picture with one click

Each picture in the reply has buttons, on the picture and in the full-size view:

ButtonWhat it does
Try againMakes a fresh take from the same description. Not offered for photos you uploaded.
Change this partAsks What should change? Type something like "make the light warmer" or "remove the plant", then click Make the change.
Remove backgroundMakes a version with the background cut out, useful for logos and product shots.

New versions appear under the pictures, marked "New versions · not in your app until you pick one". They usually take 10–30 seconds, and you can keep chatting meanwhile. Then:

  • Use this swaps the new version into your app. It's in the preview right away (or after your next build), and on your live site after you publish. Click Undo on the note that appears to put the earlier picture back.
  • Discard throws the new version away.

If a new version couldn't be made, you can Try again or Dismiss it.

Use your own photos

  1. 1

Add the photo to the chat

Click + in the chat box and choose Add files or photos, or drag the photo into the chat. See Add images and files for the file types and sizes you can use.

  2. 2

    Say where it goes

Tell the AI what to do with it. It puts your exact photo into the app; it doesn't redraw it.

Prompt
Use the photo I just uploaded as the hero image on the home page

You can upload a photo in one message and refer to it later. If you've uploaded several, mention the file name so the AI picks the right one.

To swap a photo yourself without the AI, use Edit mode: click the photo and choose Replace image (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB). It's free, and the photo's hidden location data is removed before it goes into your app. See Edit by clicking.

Your logo and site icon

  • In the app. Upload your logo in the chat and ask: "Use this as the logo in the header."
  • In your brand kit. Add your logo to your brand kit and your next new project's first build puts it in the header. You can also pull your brand colours from it. See Design and themes.
  • In the browser tab. The small icon in the browser tab (the favicon) is set when you publish, in the Site Info tab. You can upload one or generate one with AI for 1 credit. See SEO and sharing.

Add a short video or music

You can ask the AI for a short background video (3 to 10 seconds) or a 30-second music track.

Prompt
Make a short, slow video of ocean waves at sunrise for the home page background

Before anything is made, a card asks you to confirm. It shows what you'll get, the estimated cost in credits, that it takes about 1–3 minutes, and that you choose afterwards whether it goes on your site. Click Make the video (or Make the music), or Not now.

When it's ready, it plays inside the AI's reply. Click Use on home page (for a video) or Use on my site (for music) to put a ready-made request in the chat box. Read it, change it if you like, then send it. For a video, the request asks for it to play muted and on a loop behind your text; for music, it asks for a play/pause button and for the music never to start by itself. Try again shows the price before making another one. If a video or track can't be made, no credits are used.

What uses credits

ActionUses credits?
AI-made pictures added during a buildYes, as part of that build
Stock photos and placeholders added during a buildNo extra cost
Using a photo you uploadedNo extra cost for the photo; the message asking for it is a normal build
Try again, Change this part, Remove backgroundYes
Use this, Undo, DiscardNo
Replace image in Edit modeNo
Generating a favicon or sharing image when you publish1 credit each
A video or music trackYes; the card shows the estimate before anything is made

See Credits and usage for how credits work.

Tips

  • Describe the subject, setting and mood: "a smiling barista handing over a coffee, morning light, shallow focus".
  • Ask for one consistent style across all your pictures so the app feels like one brand.
  • Use your own photos where you can. Real photos of your work, products or team build trust.
  • Add image descriptions. In Edit mode, click a photo and fill in Image description. It helps people using screen readers and helps search engines understand your pages.
