Build your app
Design and themes
Describe the look you want, switch palettes, fonts and presets in one click, save a brand kit for new projects, and check how your app looks on phones and tablets.
You can shape how your app looks in three ways: describe it in chat, pick a ready-made palette, font pair or preset, or save your own brand kit so new projects start with your colours, fonts, logo and tone. For small tweaks to one element, use Edit by clicking.
Describe the look in chat
The AI designs your app from what you tell it. The more specific you are about mood, colours and audience, the closer the first version will be.
- Name the feeling. "Calm and premium", "playful and bright", "clean and clinical".
- Name the colours. "Deep green and cream with one gold accent", or exact hex codes if you have brand colours.
- Say who it's for. A booking site for a spa and a dashboard for a warehouse team need very different looks.
- Say what to avoid. "No gradients", "no stock-photo people", "never bright blue".
Make it feel calm and premium: warm cream background, deep green for buttons and links, and a serif font for headings. Plenty of white space.
Switch to a dark theme: near-black background, white text, and orange as the only accent colour.
If your first message is very short (a word or two, like "a website"), Buildliy may ask a few quick-pick questions before it builds, such as which colours, fonts or layout you prefer. Your answers are remembered for later builds (see Project knowledge).
To show a layout rather than describe it, click + in the chat box, choose Sketch a layout, draw boxes for sections and lines for text, then click Attach sketch and say what you want.
Palettes, fonts and presets
Switch your app's whole colour scheme or fonts without writing a prompt.
Open Settings → Design
Open Settings from your account menu (or from your project's name menu), then choose Design.
Pick the project
Choose the project in the Project list. If you only have one, it's picked for you.
Choose a tab and click an option
- Palette: 15 colour palettes, from Sunset and Ocean to Mono and Pastel. Bold, Tech, Elegant and Vibrant have dark backgrounds; the rest are light.
- Fonts: 8 heading-and-body font pairs, such as Editorial, Friendly, Classic and Modern.
- Presets: 10 ready-made combinations of palette and fonts, such as Startup, E-commerce, Portfolio, SaaS and Soft + minimal.
Open the project to see it
The change is applied right away. Click Open project → to see it in the preview.
Things to know:
- It's free. Design picks don't use the AI or credits.
- Each pick is a new version. A line like "You edited: colors (…)" appears in the chat, and you can go back from Version history.
- Your app needs a finished build first, and picks are refused while the AI is building.
- Fonts can't always switch automatically. If they can't, you'll see a message asking you to change the fonts in chat instead. Colours are still applied.
- Your live site picks up the new look the next time you publish.
Your brand kit
A brand kit saves your colours, fonts, logo and tone of voice once, so new projects can start with them. You'll find it at the top of Settings → Design, under My brand.
Create your brand
Click Create my brand. If the project picked below already has a palette from this page that you like, you can click the button to save that project's look as your brand instead (it's labelled with the project's name).
Fill in the details
- Name: your business or brand name.
- Colours: Start from a palette, then adjust the Main colour (buttons and links), Second colour, Highlight, Background and Text. Choose Light or Dark.
- Fonts: pick one of the font pairs.
- Logo: PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 2 MB. Your first build puts it in the header. Click Suggest colours from my logo to pull colours from it.
- Tone of voice: up to 200 characters on how your site should sound, like "Warm, calm, no jargon".
Choose how it's used
Turn on Offer this brand on new projects to start new projects with it. Turn on Share with my team to let teammates use it on projects they build (only you can change it). Then click Save my brand.
You can keep up to 5 brands. The one marked Offered on new projects is used by default.
When you start a project from the dashboard, a chip at the bottom of the prompt box reads Using your brand: and your brand's name. Click it to start that project fresh instead. On a new project started another way, such as from a template, Buildliy may ask Use your brand? in the chat, with Use my brand and a button to skip it. Once a brand is used, the AI also writes your app's text in your tone.
Deleting a brand doesn't change projects already built with it.
Light and dark themes
Your app can have a light or dark look. Pick a dark palette in Settings → Design, choose Dark in your brand kit, or ask in chat. If you want visitors to switch between the two, ask for a toggle:
Add a light/dark mode switch in the header and remember each visitor's choice.
Check phones and tablets
Most visitors will see your app on a phone. On the left of the address bar above the preview, switch between Desktop, Tablet (768 × 1024) and Phone (390 × 844). With Tablet or Phone picked, turn on the device frame to see your app inside a phone or tablet outline. Your choice is remembered for each project.
If something looks cramped on a phone, tell the AI what you see:
On phones, the pricing cards are squashed side by side. Stack them one per row and make the buttons full width.
The "Built with Buildliy" badge
Published apps show a small Built with Buildliy badge in the corner, on your live site and in the full-screen preview (never inside the builder). On the Pro plan, the project's owner can hide it in Settings → Design → Branding, then publish again to apply it. Hiding the badge also hides the small Report link visitors use to report a harmful app.
Tips for a professional look
- One accent colour. A calm background, readable text and one vivid colour for buttons and links looks modern and focused.
- Two fonts at most. One for headings and one for body text. The font pairs do this for you.
- Real content. Your real business name, prices and photos make an app look finished. See Images in your app.
- Room to breathe. Ask for "more white space" if a page feels crowded.
- Write your rules down once. Put lasting style rules ("never use bright blue") in Project knowledge so every build follows them.
- One change at a time. Smaller design changes are easier to judge and easier to undo.
